abstract:

triple-double-u : Mailia on DIY

Internet resources, when involved in the creation of content, become nothing more than a re-contextualization of data, which raises the question of how much is the Internet able to absorb reused information.
Is it possible to use internet resources to answer given questions?
How far can we trust the available online-content?
What is finally consumerism?
And what is 'do it yourself production'(DIY)?
Why not call the compilation of available online-content 'DIY-Produktion'?

Within the frames of Interfiction 2006 we will perform a live DIY-concept using the 'Mailia' software and we will try to look at the given theme 'DIY-Produktion in einer Arena des Konsums' from an unusual perspective.

The Mailia software analyzes emails coming to ones mailbox and simply replies to them.
Mailia is as intelligent as the Eliza software and as flexible as open source products.
The email answering machine grabs an incoming message, analyzes it, sends requests to the Google search engine, then picks up given results, sorts them, and outputs the information into an email form which is sent back to the sender / questioner.

For interfiction 2006 we will do an Mailia experiment set-up:
we will feed the Mailia software with DIY-content - we will ask Mailia questions and input terms and definitions about DIY / Consumerism / Prosumerism etc. and let Mailia, the DIY-software, answer.
